Welcome to the first installment of Street Scene Sunday, where each week we explore incredible street art from around the world! I’m kicking off this new series with a mural that’s not only visually striking but also rich in meaning: Love Blooms in Reading, Ohio.

Located at 11 Benson Street, right at the entrance of the Reading Bridal District, this vibrant mural has become a beloved landmark for locals and visitors alike. The Reading Bridal District is the largest bridal district in North America, and this artwork perfectly captures the spirit of the area—celebrating love, community, and the beauty of tradition mixed with modern creativity.
Designed by Elizabeth Hatchett, Love Blooms blends intricate, handcrafted wedding lace patterns with bold, graphic lines, creating a timeless yet contemporary piece. The mural’s simple yet powerful message is embodied in the word LOVE, with each letter serving as a tribute to the romantic energy that fills the district, as well as an uplifting message for everyone who walks by.
The mural was created in partnership with the City of Reading and was made possible through the generosity of sponsors like Reading Bridal District, Duke Energy, and Time Warner Cable. Special thanks to ArtWorks and the many individuals and organizations who contributed to its creation, including Christian Dallas (Teaching Artist) and apprentices Previn Beal, Meghan Bees, Lean Callahan, and Kinsey Downs.

What makes this mural even more special is its connection to the city’s identity. It’s not just about love in the romantic sense but about the community coming together and celebrating what makes Reading unique. It’s a piece that welcomes everyone, whether you’re a bride-to-be or a curious traveler discovering the charm of this Ohio town.
Now, I want to hear from you! What do you “LOVE” about this mural? Is it the colors, the design, or the message it carries? And if you know of any similar murals or street art in your hometown, share them in the comments below! I’d love to feature your local gems in future Street Scene Sunday posts.
Stay tuned for next week’s installment of Street Scene Sunday—there’s much more street art to discover!
