While exploring Chattanooga’s vibrant Southside, a burst of color and creativity stopped me in my tracks. There, stretched across the side of the Kinley Chattanooga Southside Hotel, was a massive, mind-bending mural that radiated life, motion, and meaning.
“Communal Kaleidoscope” by local female artists Alecia Buckles and Briah Gober isn’t just a mural—it’s a visual love letter to the city and its people. This stunning collaboration is filled with abstract shapes, layered colors, and symbolic stitching, designed to reflect Chattanooga’s rich cultural diversity and communal spirit. Inspired by the idea of quilt-making, the piece weaves together different styles and stories, just like the community itself.
And the best part? You don’t have to be a hotel guest to enjoy it. This mural lives on the building’s exterior, greeting every passerby with bold hues and inviting them to pause, reflect, and maybe even smile. I found myself doing all three.
After learning more about the hotel’s commitment to showcasing female creatives and locally curated art throughout its lobby, bar, and 64 guest rooms, I immediately added the Kinley to my travel bucket list. A place that values art, community, and thoughtful design? That’s my kind of stay.
Next time I’m in Chattanooga, I won’t just be admiring from the sidewalk—I’ll be checking in.
