Stop Waiting for the Perfect Time to Travel

We tell ourselves we’ll travel someday—when life slows down, when we have more money, when the kids are older, when work isn’t so busy, or when everything finally falls into place. But here’s the truth: the perfect time to travel rarely arrives. The best adventures begin the moment we decide to stop waiting.

As a travel photographer, I’ve learned that nearly every unforgettable journey started with uncertainty. There were trips that required careful budgeting, itineraries that changed unexpectedly, and destinations that weren’t exactly what I had imagined. Yet those experiences became some of my favorite memories. I’ve watched the sun rise over quiet coastlines, wandered charming small towns I’d never heard of before, and met incredible people simply because I chose to go instead of waiting for a “better” time.

Travel doesn’t have to mean an expensive overseas vacation. It can be a scenic drive through your own state, a weekend exploring a nearby city, or finally visiting that museum, park, or historic landmark you’ve been saying you’ll see “one day.” Every destination has a story waiting to be discovered, and every journey has the power to broaden your perspective, reduce stress, and remind you just how beautiful this world really is.

This week, I want to challenge you to take one small step toward your next adventure. Choose a destination you’ve been dreaming about and put it on your calendar. Start a travel savings fund, book a hotel, request the time off, or simply map out a day trip for the coming weekend. You don’t have to have every detail figured out—you just have to begin.

Life isn’t measured by the days we spend waiting. It’s measured by the memories we create along the way. So stop waiting for the perfect time to travel. Your next adventure may be closer than you think.

Where will your next adventure take you? I'd live to hear about it in the comments!
