The Apple Barn: Wine Tastings, Fried Pies and Plenty to Explore
What began with a wine tasting turned into a relaxed afternoon of warm fried apple pies, shopping, apple products and exploring one of Sevierville’s most recognizable food-and-farm destinations.
Is The Apple Barn in Sevierville Worth Visiting?
Based on my experience, yes—especially if you enjoy local food, sweet fruit wines, old-fashioned treats and browsing shops at your own pace.
Our visit combined a wine tasting at Apple Barn Winery, warm fried apple pies and plenty of time exploring the shops throughout the property.
The Apple Barn and Cider Mill is more than a single store.
The riverside property in Sevierville brings together an apple orchard, winery, cider bar, candy shop, creamery, general store and restaurants, making it easy to spend a few hours in one place.

What Is The Apple Barn and Cider Mill?
The Apple Barn is a family-run apple farm and visitor destination along the Little Pigeon River in Sevierville.
What began with apple growing has expanded into a collection of food, shopping and tasting experiences while keeping the orchard at the center of the property.
The official Apple Barn site says the hillside orchard now contains more than 7,000 apple trees in several varieties.
Apple harvest begins with early varieties in late August and continues through October, and the apples are used in products such as cider, pies and apple butter.
That apple theme carries throughout the property, from the drinks and baked goods to the products sold in the General Store.
Is Wine Tasting Available at Apple Barn Winery?
Yes. Apple Barn Winery currently offers free wine tastings daily.
Many of its sweet fruit wines begin with apple cider and are blended with other fruit flavors.
We started our visit with a tasting, and this ended up being one of my favorite parts of the property.
The fruit-forward wines were approachable and very different from a traditional dry-wine tasting.
The Apple-Strawberry and Apple-Peach wines were our favorites.
Both are part of the winery’s current lineup, along with other apple blends, fruit wines and Southern favorites such as muscadine.
If you enjoy sweeter wines or want to try something that feels closely connected to the Apple Barn setting, the winery is worth including in your visit.

Are the Fried Apple Pies Worth Trying?
For me, absolutely. The fried apple pies were worth the stop on their own.
Ours were warm and flaky, with tender apples and enough spice to bring out the flavor without overpowering the filling.
The fried pies are not just a temporary specialty.
The Apple Barn’s Cider Bar currently lists them among its longtime customer favorites, along with fresh apple cider, apple cinnamon donuts, dumplings, apple stack cake and other baked treats.
My tip: If you arrive hungry, leave room for at least one apple treat instead of filling up before you get there.

What Else Can You Eat and Drink at The Apple Barn?
The property offers considerably more than wine and fried pies. Depending on how much time you have, you can build an entire food-focused visit around the different Apple Barn stops.
The variety is one reason I think of The Apple Barn as a destination rather than a single store. You can choose one or two stops or spend much longer sampling different parts of the property.
The shops at The Apple Barn are filled with food products, gifts and Smoky Mountain souvenirs.
What Can You Buy at The Apple Barn?
The Apple Barn General Store sells apple products, local foods, kitchen items, gifts and souvenirs.
During our visit, browsing the stores became almost as much a part of the experience as the food and wine.
You will find products such as apple butter, jams, syrups, mixes, spices, candies and other pantry items, along with home décor and gift merchandise.
The General Store itself is also part of the property’s history.
It occupies a barn dating to 1910 that was built with English walnut and wormy chestnut from the farm.
My tip: Leave a little room in the car. We found plenty of things that were tempting to take home.
How Long Should You Spend at The Apple Barn?
I would allow about two to three hours for a relaxed first visit.
That gives you time for a tasting, a snack and some shopping without rushing from one building to another.
You could spend less time if you are stopping only for cider or a specific shop, or considerably longer if you plan to eat at one of the restaurants, explore every store or visit during a special event.
The official visitor information encourages guests to sample products, explore the shops and walk along the Little Pigeon River, so there is no need to treat this as a quick in-and-out stop.
Allow time to explore more than one building if you want the full Apple Barn experience.
Is The Apple Barn Good for Families, Couples and Solo Travelers?
Yes. The Apple Barn works for several different types of Smoky Mountains trips because visitors can choose which parts of the property interest them.
Families can focus on treats, shopping and the farm atmosphere.
Couples may enjoy the winery and a leisurely walk through the property.
Solo travelers can browse at their own pace and build the visit around photography, food or shopping.
Because you are not purchasing one admission ticket for a fixed experience, it is easy to customize the stop around your own interests and schedule.

Apple harvest generally begins in late August and continues through October as different varieties ripen.
The property uses numerous apple varieties throughout the season in cider, pies, apple butter and other products.
You do not need to visit during harvest season to enjoy The Apple Barn—the stores, food and tasting experiences operate beyond fall—but late summer and autumn add another layer to the apple-farm setting.

We could taste wine, try an apple treat, browse the shops and simply enjoy exploring without following a fixed attraction schedule.
If you enjoy local flavors, sweet treats, unusual shopping and places that reflect the character of a destination, The Apple Barn is an easy addition to a Sevierville or Pigeon Forge itinerary.
My advice: go hungry—and leave some room in the car for whatever follows you home.
