Jackson Square looked like a quiet Georgia downtown until a spontaneous walk revealed murals, filming markers and an unexpected connection to Hawkins.
Jackson Georgia: Stranger Things Filming Locations, Murals & Small-Town Discoveries
A quick stop on the way to Atlanta became one of the most fun discoveries of our trip when downtown Jackson revealed colorful murals, filming-location markers and its connection to Stranger Things.
From my visit: My brother and I stopped here during a summer 2025 drive to Atlanta. We parked near Jackson Square, explored on foot and spent several hours discovering a town that had never been part of the original plan.
Is Jackson, Georgia Worth Visiting for Stranger Things Fans?
Yes. Jackson is an easy, walkable stop for Stranger Things fans who want to see filming-location references while also exploring murals and a historic small-town square.

Exploring Jackson Square
My brother and I stopped in Jackson during a summer 2025 drive to Atlanta.
We found free street parking near Jackson Square and left the car there while we explored on foot.
The compact downtown area was easy to navigate, and I felt very safe walking around and taking photographs with my iPhone.
We spent a few hours discovering several murals, browsing a specialty shop and reading markers identifying locations used during the filming of Stranger Things.
You do not need to follow a formal tour to enjoy this part of Jackson.
My recommendation: park once, walk the square and give yourself enough time to notice the murals, storefronts and filming references along the way.
The murals around Jackson add another layer to the downtown experience beyond its television connection.
The Murals Started Telling Their Own Story
As I wandered through Jackson with my camera, I began spotting murals that reflected the area’s history, outdoor culture and community pride.
That alone would have made the walk worthwhile.
The colorful public art gave me another reason to slow down rather than treating Jackson as a quick roadside stop.
Then I found a mural that changed the entire direction of the visit.
Then Jackson Became Hawkins
A Stranger Things mural stopped me in my tracks and turned what had been a pleasant small-town walk into something completely different.
Jackson, Georgia is one of the Georgia locations connected with filming for the Netflix series.
Once I realized that, the markers and familiar-looking downtown details became much more interesting.
The town was no longer simply a spontaneous stop on the way to Atlanta.
It had become part of the real-world geography behind Hawkins.

A Mural That Revealed Jackson’s Stranger Things Connection
The Stranger Things mural on the Third Street wall of Roots Outdoors was one of the most memorable visual discoveries from our walk around Jackson Square.
For me, it captured exactly what makes spontaneous travel stops fun: I had not come looking for a television filming location, but suddenly I was standing in a town connected with one of the most recognizable series of recent years.
Jackson is only one piece of the larger Georgia filming story.

Build Jackson Into a Larger Georgia Trip
The Best Stops Aren’t Always on the Itinerary
What made Jackson memorable wasn’t only its connection to a popular television series. It was the way an unplanned stop kept revealing more than I expected.
We arrived simply looking for a place to stretch our legs.
Instead, we found a historic square, colorful murals, local businesses and filming-location clues that completely changed the experience.
Jackson may not have been on my original itinerary, but it became one of the highlights of the drive.
The next time you’re traveling through Georgia, leave a little room for the unexpected exit. You never know what stories—or murals—you might discover.
